All bodies are good bodies.
Therapy
Whether it’s depression, anxiety, grief or a big change in life that has prompted you to seek therapy; I’m glad you’re pursuing support. Life is full of hard things and having a safe place to process them and gain insights and tools can be so healing.
I believe all bodies are good bodies, each with strengths and challenges. Exploring the connection between our minds and bodies and learning to regulate our nervous systems can improve mental health. I like to help people explore helpful tools and strategies such as grounding techniques, mindfulness, mantras and boundary setting. I borrow from motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy and solution-focused interventions.
Some of my areas of interest include miscarriage support, breastfeeding stress and grief, motherhood, acquired disabilities and physical disabilities.
Consulting
As a disability consultant, I help churches and nonprofits become more accessible and welcoming to people with disabilities. Belonging doesn’t just happen. It requires intentionality, and often change. I help organizations consider the experiences of children and adults with all different types of disabilities, acquired or from birth, apparent or non-apparent. There’s so much more to accessibility and belonging than what the ADA covers. I help organizations identify “low hanging fruit,” and, often low-cost, solutions that can make a big difference. Using the framework of universal and responsive design and accessibility best practices, I help organizations get creative with how to make their processes and programming more accessible.
In addition to evaluating programs, I write, edit and speak to audiences about disability and accessibility to increase awareness and provide practical tips.
About Me
My experiences and values as a social worker inform my work. I've worked for a Christian denomination as a disability consultant helping churches be more welcoming and accessible. At Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services I educated primary care, OB, and pediatrics about mental health and helped pediatric offices implement screening to identify mothers with depression or anxiety.
I am a parent, a social worker, a lifelong learner and a disability advocate. I love Lake Michigan, creativity and reading. The enneagram, the Lazy Genius, Yoga with Adriene and intuitive eating are some of my favorite things.
